Dyson Design Critique
This critique was done in a class in my certificate for technical writing and editing at the University of Washington. The assignment was to take and critique the design of a product. For this project, I chose to explore the design of Dyson’s product line. Owning one of their vacuums, I had been immediately taken by its user friendliness, and the simplicity of its documentation. So, I took what I already knew, and began to explore their product line in more detail.
Almost immediately I found a similarity to a well known technology company. When you look at them side by side, you immediately notice a similarity between how Apple and Dyson market their product lines. From the product to the packaging to the instruction manual, both Dyson and Apple are selling not just a product, but an entire experience. And that experience is consistent across their entire line.
