Common Core Standards Mapping
As I was leaving public schools and entering intro instructional design, the Common Core Standards were just beginning to take hold. I was steeped in the GLEs, but I’d never had an opportunity to dive into the Common Core. As part of a professional group, I dove into those standards through mapping out the progression through the Common Core Standards.
A critical component to any well-designed curriculum is developing a good progression that scaffolds learning from start to finish. As such, it’s important to understand how learning targets build off one another. So, in mapping out the standards, I built a comprehensive progression, building from one chunk to another. Through this process, I discovered assumed skills that were necessary building blocks along the way, while also referencing the former state standards as well as other national standards.
